Common opening questions: 'Why do you want to visit the US?', 'Who are you visiting?', 'How long will you stay?'. Answer in one short sentence each, no padding.
Trip purpose: 'I'm visiting my sister in Houston for two weeks'. Not: 'I have always dreamed of seeing America and exploring its culture'. Specificity wins.
Ties to home: 'I work as a senior accountant at Tata Consultancy, I have approved leave from Aug 5 to Aug 19, and my husband and 6 year old son will stay in India'. Concrete, verifiable, brief.
Funding: be ready to state who is paying and produce one document on request (sponsor letter, bank statement). Officers rarely ask to see paper, but the answer must be instant.
If asked about previous refusals, never argue or explain the old refusal. Say: 'Yes, I was refused for the UK in 2023. Since then I have travelled to Singapore and the UAE'. Show progress, not defensiveness.
